Consumer understanding of sustainability concept in agricultural products

The term “sustainability” is based on three main pillars: environment, society and economy. To achieve sustainable development, agriculture one of the fields to be considered it key address economic, environmental ethical problems. Besides, consumers are increasingly demanding foods produced under practices aiming get involved in process enhancing food sustainability. Under such premises, a study was carried out with more than 3600 6 countries (Brazil, China, India, Mexico, Spain USA). Participants were asked questions organized two topics: general sustainability willingness pay different categories. In general, results showed that thought product “environmentally friendly”, “healthier”, has been grown using “few chemicals” “have better quality”. More 30% US not willing for products. This percentage decreased 20% Mexico Brazil reached lowest value India (~14%). conclusion fully aware importance sustainability; tend associate production just organic farming higher quality.
